Printable Camping Supply Checklist

[ 0 ] June 11, 2010 |

Having a camping checklist makes it a lot easier to remember all of the gear you will need. I found myself constantly making a list of all of the things to take camping each time we would go on a trip until I finally decided to make a printable camping supply checklist that I could just print out for every trip.

There were plenty of others online, but they weren’t truly printable (not in my opinion at least – as a graphic designer I tend to be a little picky on the definition of what printable truly means!) – I didn’t want something that I would have to worry about my printer not printing it right because it was “web sized” and not “paper sized”.

The other problem with other camping checklists I found is that they had things that really didn’t seem like camping necessities (such as a rolling ball for making ice cream?) but were missing things I couldn’t imagine not having while camping, such as a can opener!

So, I proudly present to you my lean, clean, easy to read, light on the computer ink camping checklist printable for all to use for free.

To print out the checklist, all you will need to do is to save it onto your computer and then click print. Some browsers may vary, but you should be able to open it with no problems using the latest and greatest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader or other PDF file reader.

While we’re on the topic of camping supplies, I’d like to share with you some of the things I have found to be super useful and handy while camping. Are they absolutely essential? That’s debatable – but nice to have? Yes!

Head Lamps: My husband got us all hooked on these. Imagine a handsfree flashlight that shines light on everything you look at – that’s a head lamp! I will admit, they look goofy – but they are great if you are setting up or cooking or really doing anything in the dark. I recommend at least one for every adult. Click Here to See HeadLamps.

Pie Iron: It astonishes me every year how many people I have met who do not have a pie iron, nor even knew such a thing existed. Many times I have thought of selling them out of my car! I highly recommend a Double Pie Iron Like This One – and maybe even 2 of them if you have a large crowd to cook for.My kids love making camping pizzas!

Portable Grill: After once having a canister of propane leak all through my car leaving the world’s worst smell, not to mention endanger the life of my whole family, I have been against propane grills and camp stoves. Finding something suitable for charcoal is not easy, especially when packing space is limited. But I am so far pretty happy with the $20 Bayou Classic Fold and Go Portable Grill – and its cheap enough you could replace it as often as necessary. You can also get cheap disposable grills that can also be reused with vigilant cleaning. This is great for making just about anything, and doesn’t require firewood or propane for cooking – best of all they’re not space hogs.

Exercise Mats to Sleep on: If you’ve ever spent an hour pumping up an air mattress only to wake up and it be entirely deflated and your back sore, you may be bitter against air mats like I am, but also hate being on the hard cold ground. Well, we found the perfect solution – an exercise mat! They roll/fold up pretty well, and they stay nice and soft enough. My husband and I lie two of them side by side, then top with all of our blankets & sleeping bags – perfect! You have to make sure they are the nice soft cushy ones, the flatter types work okay but aren’t as good as the ones that are more cushioned. Here is the kind I like: The Harbinger Tri-Fold Exercise Mat. There’s other brands, but this is the best price I’ve found.

What things do you do to make packing for a camping trip more efficient? Do you have anything I may have overlooked for bringing along on a camping trip for my camping checklist for supplies? I want to hear from you in the comments section below!
